A glimpse of a falling leaf, the intricate lacework of ferns, the springtime buds piercing the snow, the beautiful designs of seedpods, water rippling to change reflections to impressionist-like canvases, sun and shadows interplaying ----
These are the things that inspire me to shape and decorate the porcelain pottery I make.

I am a part-time potter working out of my studio in our home at the edge of Deep River where nature is all around us.

My pottery and art training have been through classes and workshops offered locally, in Ottawa, North Bay, and at annual Fusion Conferences.

Initially, working in stoneware with some raku, I fell in love and continue to work with high-fire porcelain. Whether wheel-thrown or slab-built, my decorative and functional pieces are in simple, contemporary shapes that please me by themselves or act as canvasses for my impressions of nature.

Born in Riga, Latvia, I lived in Germany during my early school years, moving to Canada as a teenager. Occasionally, in my pottery, I still love to play with incised lines (sun designs), curves, and geometric shapes relating back to national geometric designs used in school. My education - science degree majoring in biology and psychology - has influenced my pottery in more suble ways.

I have a passion for pottery and hope that some of my contemporary simplicity also pleases others.
