| Carol
produces functional and decorative porcelain pottery. The properties
of the clay itself lead Carol to continue to explore and refine
new forms. Even though the form of each piece is of primary importance,
her work is distinguished by a variety of glazing methods.
Wood ash, a traditional glazing material, can produce beautiful
and distinct glazes. The final result depends on such factors
as the species and age of the tree, and the soil on which it grew.
It is exciting to work with a material whose results are not always
predictable. The same is true for Raku, another glazing technique
in which Carol also specializes.
Carol has taken pottery courses at Sir Sandford Fleming College,
Canadore College and The Ottawa School of Art. She also frequently
participates in workshops. |
