| Colour and form have intrigued
me from my youth where I grew up on the prairies...the subtle
shadings inherent in a wind blown snow bank, the crimson splash
of red willow bark or the blue of spring freshets running into
a prairie slough...all formed part of my artistic psyche. Taking
organic images such as these and using the elements and principles
of art I infuse them into a variety of art forms whether it is
painting a picture, designing a batik silk scarf, jewelry making,
beadwork, weaving, knitting, spinning and dyeing, or the magic
of wheatweaving. These I have pursued with a passion.
For example, in spinning for end use, the tactile sensation,
combined with the interplay of colour and line are vital to my
work. I draw upon organic imagery in creating my work, infusing
environmental idioms into each piece.
I am a graduate in Fine Arts from the University of Saskatchewan.
I hold certificates in Traditional Rug Hooking and an O.H.S. Certificate
of Excellence in Spinning as well as other short courses in paper
making, batik, copper enamelling, etc. |
