| In her Riverfront Studio by
the Ottawa River, Erma produces handmade functional pottery and
both traditional and contemporary baskets. When combining basket
making and pottery the result is a unique creation for your home.
Erma is a retired teacher and Speech Pathologist. Although she
has always had a keen interest in the arts, she began working
with clay seriously after retirement. Her skills were developed
with the help of the members of the local Potters Guild, participating
in workshops and attending courses at Canadore College. She enjoys
working with porcelain stoneware and high fired glazes.
Basket making followed while wintering in Florida where she took
courses in Shaker style baskets. Materials used are rattan and
reed, both natural and hand dyed, cane and oak or hand made porcelain
handles. Some baskets are given a protective coating using oil
or water based stains. |
