| Bruce Winterbon is a retired
scientist, separated, and living alone. Much of his time is spent
either in his basement workshop or wandering outdoors, often with
a camera.
His woodwork includes both turnings and other things, the latter
including, for example, wooden earrings, the ocasional set of
display shelves, small tables of his own design, and mobiles.
Usually he tries to take advantage of special figure in wood,
e.g., "tiger" and crotch figures, especially in maple.
Recently he has started to do some turnings in soapstone.
His photography is nature scenes, either landscapes, small views,
or closeups of plants. His current work uses a digital camera,
and all prints are produced on a computer printer. These include
scans of older 35-mm. slides. Framed prints are made with paper,
ink, and framing materials for which the manufacturer expects
a 90-year life. Cards are made with a high-quality printer on
fine matte paper, but of course do not have the same archival
quality. Some of his pictures have been used in a brochure recently
created by ZEC Rapides-des-Joachims, and his cards are also available
at ZEC Rapides, ZEC Dumoine, the gas station in Rapides des Joachims,
The Loon's Nest bookstore in Deep River, and Trailhead in Ottawa.
He hopes to create a picture book of the Dumoine River.
